Common materials for planetary reducer processing

The planetary reducer case is the basic component for installing each transmission shaft.Since the planetary reducer will generate a large reaction force when transmitting torque on each shaft during operation, and act on the box, it is required that the box has sufficient rigidity to ensure the accuracy of the relative position of each transmission shaft.Only the metal structure of the reducer box can obtain greater strength and rigidity, and the equipment structure is more compact and lighter.Planetary reducer housing materials can be divided into three types: gray cast iron (HT200, HT250), ductile iron and Q345.


Common materials for machining planetary gearboxes


1. Gray cast iron

Gray cast iron refers to cast iron containing flake graphite, the fracture is dark gray.The main components are iron, carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur and phosphorus.They are widely used cast irons, whose production accounts for more than 80% of the total cast iron production.

Gray cast iron is a type of cast iron.In cast iron, carbon is present in the form of flake graphite.Fracture is gray.Has good casting, cutting performance and wear resistance.Used in the manufacture of frames, boxes, etc.Gray cast iron graphite is flake, and the effective bearing area is small.Graphite tips are prone to stress concentrations, so their strength, ductility, and toughness are lower than those of other cast irons.Has good damping properties, low notch sensitivity and high wear resistance.


2. Ductile iron

Ductile iron is a high strength cast iron material.Its overall performance is similar to that of steel.It is precisely because of its excellent performance that it has been successfully applied to the casting of parts with complex stress, high strength, toughness and wear resistance.


Ductile iron is obtained through spheroidization and inoculation, which can effectively improve the mechanical properties of cast iron, especially the plasticity and toughness, so as to obtain higher strength than carbon steel.


3. Q345

Q345 is a steel type, a low-alloy steel, widely used in bridges, vehicles, ships, construction, pressure vessels, special equipment and other fields, where 'Q' is the yield strength, and 345 means the yield strength. The strength of the steel is 345MPa.
