3. Selection process
Calculate load torque
First, the load torque of the conveyor belt needs to be calculated. According to the formula: Torque = Force × Moment Arm. On a conveyor belt, the force mainly consists of the gravity and friction of the material.
Gravity of material = volume of material × bulk density × acceleration due to gravity
Material volume = bandwidth × belt length × material thickness
Assuming the material thickness is 0.2 meters, the material volume = 1.2 meters × 500 meters × 0.2 meters = 120 cubic meters
Material gravity = 120 cubic meters × 2.5 tons/cubic meters × 9.8 meters/second² = 2940 kN
Friction force = friction coefficient × normal pressure
Assuming that the friction coefficient is 0.3 and the positive pressure is equal to the gravity of the material, the friction force = 0.3 × 2940 kN = 882 kN

Consider starting and braking torque
Since the conveyor belt will produce a large torque impact during starting and braking, a certain safety factor needs to be considered. Generally, the starting torque is 1.5 - 2 times the load torque, and the braking torque is 1.5 - 2 times the load torque.

Determine the reduction ratio of the reducer
Calculate the reduction ratio of the reducer based on the conveyor speed of the conveyor belt and the rotation speed of the drive motor. Assume that the speed of the drive motor is 1450 rpm, the conveyor speed of the conveyor belt is 2.5 m/s, and the diameter of the roller is
